Tobias Sammet about Michael Kiske
"He is a very good friend of mine. We go back a while, but we became really good friends through the last Avantasia tour. He is a wonderful person. I grew up listening his song as a child. I would't have become a vocalist if he wasn't there. We spent a lot of times together during the last Avantasia tour, and I was convinced that he is a wonderful person as well as a wonderful singer. I can speak to him on anything. We talk for a long time on a phone, too.In this scene, it is quite rare to be able to have a true friend, but he is it. Besides Oliver and myself, Michi is the only lead vocalist who has participated the all Avantasia albums. He is the premium member of the Avantasia family!"
Michael Kiske about Tobias Sammet
"My voice is different from Tobi's. Some people think our voices are similar but I don't get it. Maybe it is similar, but I don't know. Our voice sounds different to me from vibrato to attitude. We may have the similar range, but our voices are different. His lower voice sounds really different from mine. I always have my own interpretation to songs he assigns to me, but his strong melody remains the same. Tobi is very good at writing melodies. I don't want to change them because it is very catchy and very good, and I don't think I can write something better. So, I put my personality/idea here and there. Adding something, like hightone scream, or make it short or long... When Tobi composes a song with my voice in his mind, his songs always carry "Helloween" type of emotions."
"Whenever opportunities come up, we often talk about spiritual stuff. Spirituality is the essence of my life. I don't commit to a particular religion, but I have always been a very spiritual person from long time ago. I consider life as a school. It is a place to learn and build up who you are as a person in many ways. Tobi thinks the same way. So, we sometimes talk about spiritual ideas on and on."
Kiske about Tobias Sammet songwriting to Rockmetal4you: "He writes such great stuff and in so many different styles, too. He can write an almost Bon Jovi – kind of song and he can write a Power Metal song and I think that's part of the success. The material is just so good, the melodies are so great. I like that kind of stuff. AOR is also fun to sing. It's very melodic and you sing that love-lyrics I would probably never write by myself. It's always interesting. It's the same when you eat. You don't eat the same meal every day. You like to have something different every day. If you would eat the same meal every day you would probably even get sick. I think music is pretty much the same. You gotta keep the spirit up, you gotta keep the fire burning and keep it exciting for yourself. That's why you have to grow and you have to be brave enough to try new things, whether if it's accepted by the market or not. Because if you don't, you might loose the fire and then you get boring."
